Ian,

  One issue to consider is 'numeration.'  Your scheme seems to imply that
the sequences are numbered consecutively (and probably from '1').
However, things like PDB entries are non-consecutive and have non-numeric
numbering schemes.  How do you think these things should (or should not!)
fit in?
