Documentation license discussion

I want to make the documentation license the GNU FDL license, we just didn't click that button when this site was setup. Does anyone have a complaint with that? See what it looks like (new site) test site. --jason stajich 13:18, 23 December 2005 (EST)

Module Documentation Link

Can we add a link to the main module documentation on the main links (left toolbar) panel?

this is done now although I think the module doc on this website the best way to start as users can contribute to the documentation and provide an overview. jason stajich 08:27, 3 February 2006 (EST)

Shorten Page

IMO, a home page should have very little information. People usually want just one little piece of very specific information, so a home page should have very little except for clearly described links. I would move to other pages the following:

  • The list of packages. (Put this in the Getting page, e.g.) You can simply mention that there's several packages
  • Links to History of Bioperl - all that can go on the About_Bioperl_Project. (Btw, I think the Bioperl page should be called About_Bioperl_Project, or at least Bioperl_Project.)
  • Most of Bioperl in Action. Maybe have one sentence saying, "It's been used in LINK and LINK , see Bioperl_In_Action for more. (Or see Bioperl_Publications.)" Yes, it's an accomplishment to be proud of, but how many page visitors really want to see this?

The one thing I would make longer and more usable is links to documentation, since that's so often what people will want. (Am I biased? It's almost always what I want. And developers know the wiki well enough to navigate elsewhere.) I'd have a Help or Documentation section with a bulleted list (sub-divided, or maybe more than one list) of Getting... FAQS... API docs.
