Chris Fields is a molecular microbiologist finishing his first stint as a postdoctoral researcher in the Department of Biochemistry at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. His current area of research is protein-RNA interactions and their role in transcriptional and post-transcriptional regulation.

Chris has contributed a number of modules, including:

• Bio::DB::EUtilities - currently undergoing revisions
• Bio::SearchIO::rnamotif
• Bio::SearchIO::erpin
• Bio::SearchIO::infernal

He is also in the midst of developing tools which will integrate RNA secondary structure analysis within BioPerl, including several wrappers for RNA-based programs such as UNAFold, Infernal, and RNAMotif. He's also chipping in on other areas in Bioperl, more specifically with Bio::Tools::Run::RemoteBlast, Bio::SearchIO, and bioperl-db.

In February 2007 he became a core developer.
